This blog is an addendum to The Efficient Drinker website. The site was made because there’s no comprehensive place to learn about how many calories are in alcoholic beverages. The FDA mandates nutritional breakdown for non-alcoholic beverages, but for whatever reason, not alcoholic ones unless branded a certain way, like light beer.
About 5 years ago, I made a spreadsheet to figure out which beers one could get buzzed on for the least amount of calories. Years passed, I lost it, and in early 2010, recreated it for a friend. It was pretty obvious that nowhere on the web offered such a take on things and with a little effort I was able to compile a fairly comprehensive list of adult beverages.
Needless to say, the site has become more than just a spreadsheet, which was problematic because I knew absolutely nothing about how to program for the web. The site was made borrowing code from so many sources that I’d have a hard time noting all of them. But for those who are interested, my software costs are zero. I use:
- Komodo Edit – for editing the source code
- Gimp – for graphic editing
- Image Alpha – because Gimp doesn’t have transparent 8 bit PNG support
- Cyberduck – uploading to server
- WordPress – for administering this blog
Another thank you to my cousin for his technical support. He runs a payment processing software company. And to CR Market Design for help with logo and the graphics.
