Some Other Popular Mixed Drinks

In making this site, it was quickly realized that beer seemed to be within a somewhat limited range of calories and alcohol. The same couldn't be said for mixed drinks. One could easily speculate on how bad certain fruity drinks are but before the Virtual Mixologist, it was pretty hard to figure things out. Now you can plug in your drink's ingredients and see for yourself and figure out just how strong is a Long Island Iced Tea.

long island iced tea cocktail

Long Island Iced Tea

  • 1 oz vodka (80 proof)
  • 1 oz tequila(80 proof)
  • 1 oz rum (80 proof/Bacardi)
  • 1 oz gin (Bombay Sapphire)
  • 1 oz triple sec (80 proof/Bombay Sapphire)
  • 1.5 oz sweet & Sour Mix
  • .5 oz Coke

Where to begin with this beloved cocktail of broke college kids? OK, stregth: This 8 ounce Long Island Iced Tea is the equivalent of Drinking 4.1 Miller Lites! And calories: 440 (79% efficiency). Realistically, how many of these can one handle? And where did it get its name from?

sex on the beach

Sex on the Beach

  • 1 1/2 oz Vodka
  • 3/4 oz Peach Schnaaps
  • 1 1/2 oz cranberry juice
  • 1 1/2 oz orange juice

A summertime favorite and a drink that evokes thoughts of the tropics. This sex on the beach comes in at 210 calories and 59% efficiency. Not great, but most people aren't having more than one or two of these, so relax and enjoy. Note: there's another variation involving Chambord and Midori.

cosmopolitan cocktail

Cosmopolitan

  • 1 1/2 oz Vodka
  • 1/2 oz Triple Sec
  • 1 oz cranberry juice
  • Freshly squeezed lime juice

Cranberry is obviously not the greatest mixer, and this drink checks in at 196 calories in the 3 ounce serving and 69% efficiency. If your bartender is using sweetened lime juice rather than fresh, you can bump the calories and take down the efficiency a notch.
